----------------------------------
Delayed in various stages and countries by the pandemic, we're extremely grateful to finally share the second album from Pittsburgh trio Cartoon Forest (Ryan Emmett, Eric Messerall, and Michael Skz). Simply titled Cartoon Forest II, it follows perilously close to four years after their eponymous 2018 debut on Emmett's imprint White Reeves Productions.
It also brilliantly showcases their now characteristic combination of organic and synthetic sounds. Though recorded live in a small town near Lake Erie, it resembles the trio's home in Pittsburgh: a post-industrial landscape with a complex geography and sonic profile. II glows and hums like a living city, evoking it with the sounds of railroads, organs, and birds.
"Cartoon Forest II is bathed in aqueous noises and echoing ambience, vague and undefined but still slightly ominous and mesmerizing." -Beats Per Minute
"...an iconoclastic affair that brings organic and synthetic sounds." -Take Effect
"...calming and slightly eerie at the same time." -Bored In Pittsburgh
"...a wonderful blend of experimental ambience and psychedelic drone with a touch of post-rock." -Eternity Tree
"A fledgling sonic world baked in radioactive anti-rhythms." -Lost in a Sea of Sound
"...glistening." -RTRFM 92.1
Recorded live in Harborcreek, PA at Scott's Cabin (June 2018)
